Esports are video game competitions held at a professional level around the world. In 2021, this industry earned over $1 billion and will continue to grow steadily. According to Newzoo, the number of video game fans grew by 6.7% in the same year and exceeded 465 million viewers.

In this regard, for esports to be considered as such, it must meet a number of guidelines. The first is that the game must take place between two or more players who must compete on equal terms, i.e. avoid any kind of cheating. At the same time, there should be official regulated leagues and competitions organized by sponsors or companies that aim to reach a significant number of fans who play or watch the games. One of the most famous platforms for enjoying this hobby through streaming is Twitch, owned by Amazon.

Esports tournaments take place like regular sports; they bring together famous players from each video game, use stadiums to play the games, have massive ticket sales, and have audiences watching from home.

Major leagues and games

  1. League of Legends World Championship
Organized by Riot Games, it is one of the most popular games that generates the most profit, with a prize of almost 1 million euros.

The game was developed for the Microsoft Windows operating system and a version for OS X was launched, which was improved by the users of the game themselves, giving rise to an extended version of the game.

  1. Fornite World Championship
There are many variables that have made this game successful. First, it is free, which encourages people to play it.

Because of this, the game’s creator Epic Games hosts this tournament every year, which distributes up to $100 million. The top 100 players and the top 50 pairs get a place in the finals.

  1. PUBG World Championship
It is organized by Tencent and Pub. During the tournament, teams compete in weekly rounds, and after reaching the finals, they can compete for a cash prize of up to 2 million euros.

In the game, 100 participants parachute onto an island where they will stock up on equipment to survive and kill their opponents.

4.International
This is a tournament for DOTA 2 fans sponsored by Valve Corporation. The first World Championship took place at Gamescom 2011 in Germany, where due to its success it was moved to several cities around the world, such as Seattle, Vancouver, and Shanghai.

  1. Call of Duty World League.
Its first edition took place in 2016, and in one of the last editions, it gave away a total of $6 million in prizes for the 2019 season. The tournament series was suspended, and in early 2020, the Call of Duty League became a franchise league with twelve teams distributed in eleven cities.
  1. Overwatch League
The first competition created by Blizzard Entertainment was held in 2017.

The game consists of four stages that last approximately one month each, and the distributed prizes are USD 200,000 for the winner; USD 100,000 for the second place and USD 50,000 for the third and fourth places.

7.Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Also called CS:GO, it was designed for Windows and developed by Valve Corporation and Hidden Path Entertainment in 2012.

It is one of the most successful shooter games on the market with free-to-play access. This video game creates an action-packed environment where players need to defend themselves or else they will die forever.

Anime Expo, often shortened to AX, is an American anime festival held in Los Angeles, California. It is organized by the non-profit Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation. With few exceptions, the festival takes place over the 4th of July weekend and lasts 4 days. It is currently held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, but in the past has also been held in Anaheim, San Jose, New York and Tokyo. Anime Expo is known as the largest anime festival in the United States, and is also known for having many anime industry personalities as guests. The average attendance of the festival is 30 thousand people.

Events and program of the festival

During Anime Expo, many events are organized in which visitors can participate: board games, competitions, arcade games, and concerts.

The main events of the festival include cosplay contests, Anime Music Video, Battle of the Bands, and the SPJA Charity Auction. Many guests are also invited to the festival, including famous artists who often organize their concerts at AX. Focus groups, workshops and other events are also organized during Anime Expo. Finally, during the festival, a variety of anime is shown on several screens around the clock, and there are stores with otaku merchandise.

What’s interesting: Some may say that anime has a narrow circle of connoisseurs, because works of the genre are usually in Japanese, and this does not contribute much to its popularity in the West. But it only takes one look at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles to realize that there is nothing wrong with the popularity of anime, although many critics don’t really understand what the secret is.

While Sony’s major announcements are usually made at E3, for several years now the company has held its own event at the end of the year dedicated specifically to PlayStation games, called the PlayStation Experience. Here, Sony makes unannounced presentations and reveals news about its biggest franchises, including The Last of Us.

What’s fun: There’s a lot for PlayStation fans to do at PlayStation Experience, including the chance to play games, listen to interviews with developers and even meet them, and hear and see all of Sony’s annual announcements and announcements. It’s also where Sony console fans share their favorite games, characters, etc.

PlayStation Experience, or PSX, first took place in 2014 in Las Vegas. The idea was to create an event that would bring together the PlayStation community and give them exclusive access to news, demonstrations of game projects and the ability to interact with developers. The event quickly gained popularity and became a regular event.
Format of the event

PlayStation Experience – a two-day festival, filled with numerous activities and presentations. The main components of PSX include:

Key Presentation: The opening of the event is traditionally followed by a big presentation, where the most important news and announcements are announced. These can be new games, updates of existing projects, as well as announcements of new technologies and services.

Game demo zones: Visitors have the opportunity to be the first to try out the latest games on various PlayStation platforms. This includes both exclusive titles and multi-platform releases.

Sessions with developers: PSX gives fans the opportunity to meet the creators of their favorite games. This can include panel discussions, Q&A sessions, autograph sessions, and much more.

Tournaments and competitions: For those who like competitive gaming, PSX offers a variety of tournaments on popular games where you can not only show your skills but also win prizes.

Retro zone: PSX often has special areas dedicated to classic PlayStation games. This is a real treat for old-school gamers who can once again plunge into the atmosphere of their favorite games of the past.

The post The most important events in video games appeared first on Saltlakegamingcon.

]]>
For a long time, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) was considered the largest video game industry trade show in the United States; however, the barely 66,000 attendees that gathered in 2019 knocked it off the top of the industry’s popularity list. In addition, at the end of the first quarter of this year, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which organizes and presents the event, canceled the in-person event for 2022 after having already canceled it in 2020 and only holding it virtually in 2021.

As such, Gamescom is considered the largest video game conference by attendance, as its 2019 edition was attended by 373,000 people over four days, according to the latest Statista data.

The five Latin American markets that brought in the most money in the video game industry total nearly $5 billion, with Mexico leading the way in the region.

It is followed by the China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference, or ChinaJoy, which attracted 365,000 visitors the same year. China was the world’s largest video game market in 2020, with revenues of about 41 billion USD, most of which came from mobile and eSports games.

On the other side of the world, we can find a remarkable case, given that most events of this magnitude are registered in Europe and Asia; however, it ranks third and that is the Brazil Games Show, which gathered 325,000 people in 2018, an amazing figure considering, in addition, that the inhabitants of this country spent less than 1 billion dollars on video games during this year.

The list continues with Eurasian classics; Taipei Game Show, which was attended by 320,000 people, Paris Games Week with 317,000 visitors, Tokyo Game Show with 262,000 tickets sold, G-Star Korea gathered 244,000 fans and Igromir with 160,000 visitors.

It is worth noting that the dominance of video game events has changed. For example, 2019 was the first year that the Japanese multinational Sony did not participate in E3, choosing to present its State of Play on its own, while Electronic Arts canceled its live event EA Play for this year before E3 was canceled. As for Nintendo, its regular recorded exhibitions have become more important than its presence at video game conferences.

However, despite the changes and revolutions in the industry, it continues to expand and grow steadily. In 2021, this market reached an estimated $198.5 billion, and it is estimated that this figure will grow by approximately $141.6 million by 2027.

Everyone who loves PC gaming and can’t imagine their life without cybersports and gaming festivals knows that the best events in the industry are worth going to DreamHack for.

The world briefly turned away from the endless arguments about what the best online game is and froze in anticipation of what DreamHack has in store for us. With ten events taking place in nine cities and open competitions, it’s a new challenge for the leading game company. However, there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that DreamHack will do a much better job than anyone else.

Of course, if you’re just looking for free online games, you might not be very interested in this event. If you’re new to the industry or not a big fan of cybersports, you may not know what DreamHack is and why the events the company organizes are so popular.

So what is DreamHack?

DreamHack is one of the largest production companies in the gaming industry. DreamHack operates under the motto “where the gaming community comes alive” and is responsible for all the biggest and best events in the industry.

This Swedish company was recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records for hosting the world’s largest computer festival with the largest number of participants. DreamHack also held the record for the fastest internet connection at a large-scale gaming event until it was broken by The Gathering in Norway.

Simply put, DreamHack is a production company that holds events where thousands of gamers gather to play all sorts of console and PC games, and it’s not just about avid fans of downloading a game online for free. These events host not only LAN ̶ parties, but also exhibitions, real festivals and hangouts.

Finally, for those who belong to the elite gaming environment, DreamHack holds professional cybersport tournaments. For example, DreamHack Open is a chance for gamers to prove their worth and qualify for the top league.

“How to register for DreamHack?” – is a reasonable question for those who have never participated in tournaments. Prior to 2021, players were required to fill out a registration form, but in 2021, the tournament was held online and all you had to do to participate was open Fortnite during the tournament queue and the open competition was available to everyone. This means that even those who only play MMORPGs – free-to-play multiplayer role-playing games – can also be participants.

Also note that to choose a cool nickname before the tournament, the search engine query “nicknames for games generator” is becoming popular.

Tokyo Game Show (Jap. 東京ゲームショウ Tōkyō Gēmu Shō), TGS is one of the world’s largest annual game industry trade shows. It is held annually in September at Makuhari Messe, in the city of Chiba, Japan. The show is organized by the Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association (CESA) and Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. The focus is on Japanese games, but international video game developers are also well represented, using the exhibition to showcase upcoming games or equipment. The duration of the event is four days. The first two days of Tokyo Game Show are open only to the gaming industry business community, the following two days are open to the general public. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show was held in an online format for the first time.

History

The first Tokyo Game Show was held in 1996. From 1996 to 2002, it was held twice a year, in spring and fall (at Tokyo Big Sight). Since 2002, the show has been held once a year. In 2011 there were more than 200,000 visitors, and in 2012 there were already 223,753. The 20th anniversary TGS 2016 was the most attended, with 271,224 attendees and 614 companies showcasing their products at the exhibition booths.

Format

The format of TGS changes from year to year. For example, in 2015, the Tokyo Game Show featured 11 exhibition sectors consisting of the business sector, B2C sector, education, and other buying sectors.

The general exhibition area is the heart of the exhibition, occupying most of the space in the complex. Many well-known companies such as Namco Bandai, Capcom, Sony Computer Entertainment and Square Enix have demonstration areas here.

Gaming Devices

This sector covers gaming devices and equipment such as headphones, controllers, furniture and other devices related to game consoles and handheld gaming devices.

Asia’s new stars

The exhibition presented at Tokyo Game Show 2012 is focused on introducing budding game developers from Asia.

Merchandising

This sector is presented for merchandising of game-related merchandise. Vendors include Konami and Square-Enix.

Smartphone and social games

This sector is dedicated to mobile games ( smartphones and tablets ) and social games. Despite record numbers in 2012, many major companies did not have booths. For example, Microsoft, which previously had one of the largest booths, was absent in 2012. Social and mobile gaming grew to fill the gap. Microsoft returned to the show in 2013 with the release of the Xbox One.

Personal Computers

The Personal Computing sector is home to major Japanese and international manufacturers, showcasing products such as desktops and laptops.

Kids

This sector showcases new games aimed at children and teenagers. Exhibitors include companies such as Taito and Sega.

Education (Game school)

The “Game School” sector provides information about Japanese universities and colleges offering education in the field of computer games: digital art, animation, computer programming and other training programs related to the video game industry. Booths also display student work. Colleges such as Numazu Professional College of Information Technology and Tokyo Designer Gakuin College are located here.

Sales

This is the main sector where most commercial transactions between companies and consumers take place. Companies headquartered there include Nikkei Business Publications.

EGX (formerly known as Eurogamer Expo) is one of the largest and most influential gaming exhibitions in Europe. It has become an integral part of gamers’ culture, attracting thousands of visitors and dozens of leading development companies every year. This article will look at the history of EGX, its development, key moments, and impact on the video game industry.

EGX was founded in 2008 by Eurogamer Network. The first event took place at the Old Truman Brewery in London and attracted about 4,000 visitors. The goal was to create a place where players could try the latest games before their official release, as well as meet developers and like-minded people.
Development and growth

After a successful start, the exhibition quickly gained momentum. In 2009, the event moved to a larger venue in Old Billingsgate Market, and the number of attendees grew to 14,000. EGX began to attract big names in the industry, including companies such as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, who showcased their new products and projects.

In 2013, the exhibition was renamed EGX, reflecting the organizers’ desire to reach a wider audience and emphasize the international nature of the event. In 2014, EGX was held outside of London for the first time, in Birmingham, which allowed it to attract even more visitors and developers.

EGX has also expanded its program to include esports tournaments, seminars, lectures from leading industry experts, as well as separate areas for indie and retro games. This helped to increase interest in the event from various segments of the gaming community.

In 2012, the organizers launched a new format of the exhibition – EGX Rezzed, which was focused on indie games and smaller development studios. This event was held in London and became popular among gamers interested in alternative and innovative projects. EGX Rezzed quickly gained a reputation as a platform for discovering new talent and games that don’t always get attention at bigger exhibitions.

Over the years, EGX continues to grow and develop. Today, it is not just an exhibition, but a real festival for gamers that covers all aspects of gaming culture. In addition to traditional game demonstrations and presentations, EGX includes activities such as cosplay contests, tournaments, panel discussions, and even musical performances.

EGX remains an important platform for developers to present their new products directly to the audience and get feedback. For gamers, it is a unique opportunity to see and try out games before their release, meet like-minded people and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a real gaming festival.

EGX has become one of the most important events in the world of video games. It promotes the development of the gaming industry, supports young developers, and brings together gamers from all over the world. Every year, thousands of visitors come to EGX to enjoy the latest gaming releases and experience the atmosphere of a true gaming paradise.

Paris Games Week https://www.saltlakegamingcon.com/paris-games-week/ Tue, 12 Sep 2023 08:31:00 +0000 https://www.saltlakegamingcon.com/?p=41 Paris Games Week (PGW) is an annual exhibition dedicated to the computer games industry held at the Paris expo Porte de Versailles exhibition center in Paris, France.

The post Paris Games Week appeared first on Saltlakegamingcon.

]]>
Paris Games Week (PGW) is an annual exhibition dedicated to the computer games industry held at the Paris expo Porte de Versailles exhibition center in Paris, France. The event has been held annually since 2010 by the French organization SELL (French: Syndicat des éditeurs de logiciels de loisirs), which promotes the interests of computer games developers.

Paris Games Week is the world’s fifth largest gaming event, ahead of E3 in the United States and Tokyo Game Show, with a total of 317,000 visitors and 194 exhibitors attending in 2019; and the second largest gaming exhibition of the year in Europe, behind gamescom in Germany.

History

The Paris Games Week exhibition was created on the initiative of the SELL organization (French: Syndicat des éditeurs de logiciels de loisirs), the French union of the association of entertainment software producers, in October 2010. Prior to Paris Games Week, France also hosted two major annual gaming exhibitions dedicated to computer games, including: Micromania Game Show (MGS), created in 2002 by specialized dealer Micromania, and Festival du jeu vidéo (FJELD), created in 2006 by Games Fed. These events were held annually in the fall in Ile-de-France. Despite their growing attendance over the years, these exhibitions, did not bring enough exclusives and games that could play an important role in competing with other world-class exhibitions such as Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) or Tokyo Game Show (TGS).

In 2009, the French company SELL (French: Syndicat des éditeurs de logiciels de loisirs) partnered with the organizers of the Festival du jeu vidéo, bringing many exclusives to the event, thus allowing the exhibition to achieve record attendance. Later in March 2010, coincidentally, SELL decided to create its own exhibition of computer video games, called Paris Games Week, despite the success of the Festival du jeu vidéo event, which did not live up to expectations. This decision, according to the Gamekult portal, is similar to the decision taken by the German federal association BIU (German Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware) to move the existing Games Convention exhibition to Cologne in 2009, thus deciding to organize its own fair called gamescom, at the same time as the Games Convention, thus bringing major video game publishers to a new exhibition on a larger scale.

Paris Games Week was first held in 2010 between October 27 and 30. In its first year, the show had between 56,000 and 120,000 visitors and 28 exhibitors, according to various reports. As of 2019, the number of visitors to the show has reached the 317,000 mark. Paris Games Week is usually held annually in the last week of October or the first days of November in the vast modern complex of the Paris expo Porte de Versailles exhibition center. Paris Games Week is currently the world’s fifth largest gaming event, ahead of E3 and Tokyo Game Show, with a total of 317,000 visitors and 194 exhibitors attending in 2019; and the second largest gaming exhibition of the year in Europe, behind Germany’s gamescom.
